Most credit cards will offer you bonus miles for flying or cash back on extra purchases. These banks reinforce our consumer driven mindsets and encourage excessive spending and travel. However, one bank distinguishes itself. Aspiration was founded in 2013 by Andrei Cherny and Joseph Sanberg in Marina Del Rey, California.
Aspiration is a a bank that encourages "putting your money where your values are".
Through Aspiration you can round up your purchases to plant trees. With Aspiration Plus they will carbon offset all of your gas purchases.
They have two product options: Aspiration and Aspiration Plus.
With Aspiration, you choose how much to pay. They tell you to "pay what you think is fair", even if that is nothing!
Aspiration Plus is $12.50 a month if you pay annually. You can also just connect your own bank account through their "plant your change" affiliate program and your change will be used to plant trees.
The physical cards are made from 100% recycled ocean plastic. They also have a digital card option which you can access from the Aspiration app on your phone.
When you shop at socially responsible businesses, they will give you 5% cash back. Aspiration also tracks your spending and scales your impact with a "people" score and a "planet" score.
What else? ATM transactions in-network are free, up to 1.00% APY on your savings, and 10% cash back on select businesses (Toms, Warby Parker, Blue Apron...).
Aspiration is committed to "clean money". Unlike other banks, they encourage consumer conscious spending and invest in green businesses rather than gas and oil.
